Seven SOC players chosen for the Les Schwab Bowl

Among those Class 4A prep football senior stars selected to play in the 2003 Les Schwab Bowl are seven Southern Oregon Conference standouts.

South Medford's Boomer Marshall, Ryan Benson and Eric Fischer, Grants Pass' Kory Mahr and Dan Eubank, North Medford's Aric Hawkins and Roseburg's Jake Dorsey will be members of the South team for the June 28 game at PGE Park in Portland.

Lake Oswego's Steve Coury will coach the North, while Sheldon's Marty Johnson guides the South.

The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff, and ticket information can be obtained by calling 503-227-1588.

No. — Raider wrestlers to host No. 5 Menlo in finale

ASHLAND ' The third-ranked Southern Oregon University wrestling team finishes its dual-meet season with a match against fifth-ranked Menlo College at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at McNeal Pavilion.

The Raiders, 6-3, have extended the school's consecutive winning-season streak to 33 and have claimed conference and regional championships.

Host Menlo, 3-8, defeated SOU 23-9 in the season-opener.

There will be 13 nationally ranked wrestlers in action ' seven for Menlo and six for SOU ' three top-ranked wrestlers and seven of the 10 NAIA Western Regional champions crowned last weekend in Forest Grove.

SOU football announces22 prep, nine JC ecruits

ASHLAND ' The Southern Oregon University football program released a list Wednesday of 22 high school and nine junior-college players who have signed on as part of the Raiders' recruiting class of 2003.

South Medford quarterback Boomer Marshall and Grants Pass linebacker Dan Eubank ' the Southern Oregon Conference's offensive and defensive players of the year, respectively ' headline the group.

SOU captures fifth tennis dual match in succession

ASHLAND ' The Southern Oregon University women's tennis team won its fifth consecutive dual dating to last March and improved to 15-1-1 at home since 1999 by dispatching Shata College, 9-0, Thursday.

The Raiders (3-0) improved to 14-0 all-time against the California school and posted the shutout by winning 68 of 75 singles games and by sweeping the doubles tilts.

Southern Oregon softball team to hold clinic Saturday

ASHLAND ' The Southern Oregon University softball team will hold a fast-pitch clinic for girls ages 8-17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the SOU field at the corner of Wightman and Iowa streets.

Skills addressed will be hitting, bunting, slapping, base running, pitching and infield and outfield defensive play.
