Davis triumphs at Oregon InvitationalEUGENE ' Former South Medford High standout Janette Davis ran a personal best to win the 400 meters Saturday at the Oregon Invitational, which also included a contingent from Southern Oregon University.

The senior Davis, whose maiden name is Martin, clocked 53.87 to easily defeat runner-up Lacy Hinzpeter of Montana State, who ran 54.53.

Davis' previous best was 54.11 two weeks earlier.

Davis won the 1999 state championship in the 400 while competing for South Medford.

At Oregon, she placed sixth in the Pac-10 Championships last year and this year has qualified for the NCAA regionals.

— In addition to the 400, Davis has the No. 2 times among Oregon women in the 100, 200 and 800.

John Lucas, a junior distance runner from Eagle Point competing for Oregon, placed 18th in the men's 5,000 with a time of 14:19.65. Winner Henrik Ahnstrom, of Northern Arizona, clocked 13:45.23.

Southern Oregon's top performers were javelin thrower Jeff Bentley and triple jumper Keith Lawson in the men's meet and distance runner Liana Bernard, who competed Friday night.

Bentley uncorked a season's-best throw of 213-7 to place fifth, and Lawson sailed 45-7 to place ninth.

Bernard ran 37:43.61, placing ninth in the 10,000.

Other Raiders competed in a day session of the meet. Top marks were turned in by Andrea Eide, who ran a PR of 12:52 in the 100; Bryn Cogdill and Hadley Roe in the 800, who clocked season bests of 2:21.55 and 2:22.65, respectively; and the 4x100 relay of Rachel Hinze, Kendra McGrath, Megan Heuberger and Eide, whose time of 49.42 is a personal best.

In another meet, Southern Oregon's Jon Hill won the long jump at the Western Open at Western Oregon University. He jumped 22-11&
