NV's Blix tops Keating for District 6 medalist

Prep Roundup

Alex Blix of North Valley earned medalist honors Tuesday in District 6 girls golf at Stewart Meadows Golf Course.

Blix shot an 89 to finish three shots ahead of Phoenix's Caroline Keating.

Keating, who had been unbeaten in league play, had difficulty on the back nine of the par-70 layout. She shot 43 on the front, 49 on the back.

Pirate teammate Miranda Akerman also carded a 92 for co-second place.

She's (Keating) changing her swing and working on a few things, so she struggled a little, Phoenix coach Kevin Dixon said. It was probably one of the highest rounds she's shot all year.

— Hidden Valley captured the team title with a score of 397. North Valley finished second at 420, while Phoenix suffered its first district team loss of the season and placed fourth (425).

The Pirates' No. 4 player, Whitney Ferguson, became ill and could not play the back nine.

We just don't have much room for errors, said Dixon. Hidden Valley is going to be real tough at district, along with North Valley. Hidden Valley has four girls who score pretty well.
