Mustangs sweep away Central Point
Chad Hegdahl and Travis Glass combined on a five-inning, no-hit shutout and Rob Folsom belted a grand slam in Game 2 of the Medford Mustangs' American Legion baseball doubleheader sweep of Central Point on Thursday at Miles Field.
Folsom hit two home runs in the 17-0 win in the nightcap, adding a two-run shot in the second inning, and finished 4-for-6 with seven RBIs over both games of the non-league sweep.
Medford took Game 1, 11-7.
Mike Allen and Reese Lamson also added home runs in the second game ' both coming during the nine-run second inning ' with Allen going 6-for-8 with five RBIs during the two games.
— Lamson helped keep the no hitter intact with a diving catch in center field that turned into an inning-ending double play during the fourth inning.
Central Point put a runner on second with one out, but Lamson's full-extension, diving catch on Gary Gomes' shallow flare into right-center then quick throw to second to nab the runner helped the Mustangs out of the jam.
In the opener, Allen went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and Dustin Butler added three hits and four RBIs as Medford pounded out 19 hits.
Gomes went 2-for-2 and Jeff Weiss had two RBIs to lead Central Point.
