Gravelle resigns from coaching SOU softball
ASHLAND ' James Gravelle resigned as head coach of the Southern Oregon University softball team Friday.
He had coached the Raiders since their return to varsity-level, NAIA status in 2001. SOU was 81-43 overall with three consecutive winning seasons during his tenure.
This spring, the Raiders won their first-ever Cascade Conference championship, molded a 29-11 record, advanced to the NAIA Region I title game and finished with a No. 16 national ranking.
I appreciate all of Gravelle's effort on behalf of the program, SOU athletic director Phil Pifer said in a released statement.
Gravelle will remain at SOU as a football assistant and summer sports camp coordinator.
— The search for a new softball head coach will begin immediately, according to Pifer.
