Skundrick leads RiverDogs past Bend ElksBEND ' Matt Skundrick didn't need much offensive support on Friday.
The hard-throwing right-hander mowed down the Bend Elks, striking out eight and giving up just five hits to lead the Southern Oregon RiverDogs to a 7-3 amateur baseball victory.
Brent Foster had a pair of hits, including a solo home run in the fourth inning that evened the game at 2-all.
With Skundrick getting stronger as the game wore on, the RiverDogs (14-8) found an offensive rhythm in the seventh inning.
Ryan Garrett led off the top of the frame with a single and moved to third on Dan Bruce's hit.
— Derrick Draper plated Garrett with a single and Phil Ouellette capped the two-run inning with an RBI hit.
In the eighth, John Jefferson, Draper and Ken Halpin each had RBI singles to produce the final score.
Skundrick struck out the side in the ninth to run his record to 3-2.
Halpin, Foster, Garrett and Draper each had two hits for Southern Oregon, which concludes a three-game set with Bend today at 4 p.m.

American Legion Baseball
MEDFORD MUSTANGS 4-5, ROSEBURG DR. STEWARTS 2-6 ' At Roseburg, Mike Allen pitched Medford to a victory in the opener, but a late-inning rally in Game 2 helped Roseburg Dr. Stewart's split an American Legion AAA, Area 4 doubleheader.
Evan McArthur and Allen each had two hits in the nightcap before Roseburg collected two runs in the bottom of the seventh for the win.
Kellen Walker tied the game at 5-all with an RBI double and Ryan Savage drew a bases-loaded walk from reliever Beau Hovland to force home the game-winner with one out.
In Game 1, Allen scattered six hits and Dustin Butler belted an RBI single and a solo home run ' his fourth of the season ' to fuel the Mustang victory.
Medford (35-7, 8-4 Area 4) scored three runs in the first inning. Rob Folsom started the uprising with a walk and Ryan Heil got aboard on a bunt single. McArthur and Butler followed with RBI singles. The other run scored on an RBI groundout by Jimmy Ulrey.
The Mustangs didn't get another hit off Dr. Stewart's pitcher Nick Waechter until Butler homered with two outs in the sixth.
The Stews pushed across an unearned run off Allen in the seventh to close within 4-2, but couldn't draw any closer.

SOUTH MEDFORD COLTS 4-11, NORTH JACKSON ROYALS 3-4 ' Logan Boyd had two hits and came through with the game-winning RBI in Game — of an American Legion A, Area 4 doubleheader sweep for South Medford.
Boyd finished with three RBIs ' the first two coming on a two-run single in the first inning ' and his one-out double off the center-field wall plated Andy Narus from first base in the bottom of the seventh.
Narus finished with three hits to lead the offensive attack for the Colts, which improved to 15-7 overall and 12-4 in Area 4.
Ben Koziol had three hits and five RBIs in the nightcap for South Medford.
Juan Almaraz and Chris Boyd had doubles for the Royals in the opener, while Ricky O'Callahan belted a two-bagger in Game 2.
