AMERICAN LEGION A STATE TOURNAMENT ' At Portland, Matt Bryant became the third South Medford Colts pitcher in as many days to work a complete game during a 9-5 victory over the Dallas Dragons at Sckavone Field in the double-elimination tournament.

The Colts (28-9), the No. 2 team from Area 4, now advance to the semifinals with a 7 p.m. game today against North Salem. Bend, which downed South 1-0 in the opening game of the tournament, plays Grant in the other semifinal matchup.

Ya know, whatever happens, we've had a great season, said South coach Steve Antich. These kind of games, the high pressure games, are really valuable for next year's school season with these kids.

Bryant gave up eight hits and two, two-run home runs, but was otherwise very sharp to earn his fifth win in seven decisions.

Allen Smith kick-started the offense with a two-out, three-run homer in the first inning.

Justin Bowers belted a two-run blast in the second to pull the Dragons within one run, but South answered with three more runs in the third.

Matt did just enough to keep us in there, said Antich. Both those two-run homers he gave up were really his only mistakes.

Dan Chancler had three hits and two RBIs, while Smith (3-for-4 and three RBIs) and Tyler Heil (three hits) also sparked the offense. Teammate Justin Meier added a pair of hits and drove in two runs.
