North Valley clamps down in win over Lakeview

MERLIN ' North Valley brought a tough defense to Friday night's 69-41 win against Lakeview.

The Knights (8-8, 3-3 Skyline) came out pressing, holding Lakeview's offense at bay and forcing turnovers. Of North Valley's 22 takeaways, most were snagged in the first half as it outscored Lakeview, 48-24.

We've been practicing full-court pressure for weeks, said North Valley coach Rob Boye. We decided it was time to really put it on.

North Valley's Shawn Ash contributed nine steals to the smothering defensive effort and added 13 points to tie Darren Clark and Andy Shannon for the team lead.

Miles Hohnstein dropped in 10 points as the fourth Knight to reach double digits.

— We had really balanced scoring, very unselfish play from everyone, Boye said. We were just playing really good team basketball.

On offense, North Valley got a spark off the bench from Anthony Spain. Spain came into the rotation to feed nine assists to his teammates, scoring seven points of his own.

Anthony was really out there pushing the ball well and helped us build up a pretty big lead pretty quickly, said Boye.

Garret Childress accounted for 20 of Lakeview's total, leading his team as the only Honker to reach double digits. Childress fouled out in the final minutes of play.

Ben Silva toiled away in the paint for the Knights, hauling in a team high 10 boards.
