Fair-led Challengers pound Glendale

GLENDALE ' Brandon Fair set the tone for Cascade Christian in Southern Cascade League boys basketball Saturday.

The senior point guard helped the Crusaders get off to a fast start against host Glendale, then efficiently ran the offense en route to a 54-40 victory over the Pirates.

Fair connected on both his 3-point goals in the first quarter as the Challengers outscored Glendale 19-9.

We started off on fire, Cascade Christian coach Brian Morse said. We hit seven of our first 10 shots.

Besides his eight points in the game, Fair dished off eight assists and hauled in five rebounds. Additionally, he was largely responsible for the Challengers only committing 13 turnovers.

— Brandon kept control of the game, said Morse. He did a good job distributing the ball. In crucial times, he got the ball in (Isaac Hoffman's) hands when we needed it most.

Hoffman, Cascade's 6-foot-4 senior post, scored a game-high 17 points on 8 of 10 shooting from the field.

The pace of the game slowed after the Challengers (7-9, 4-2 SCL) took the 10-point lead in the initial period.

In the second quarter, we turned up the defensive pressure, said Morse. We held them scoreless for the first six minutes of the period. That was key because our offense also went stagnant.

Cascade freshman Josh Heidegger came up big on the boards with a team-high eight rebounds.
