Comets roll over South in final dual

Crater had more reason to be happy than South Medford after their Southern Oregon Conference wrestling match Thursday, a 56-3 triumph by the No. 1-ranked Comets.

But each side saw good in at least one match, the 119-pound bout that had Crater's Andy Jordan rallying for a 9-7 win over Juan Aguilar, who was wrestling up a couple of weights.

Aguilar built a 4-1 lead in the first round, but Jordan used a late takedown and turn to gather the winning points.

Aguilar wrestled tough, said South coach Ken Thompson.

Thompson was also impressed with Joe Ziegler, who lost 13-3 to Bryson Gutches of the Comets but stayed in his face and got after it.

— Bryson's the class of the state. Heck, all their kids are the class of the state.

Crater coach Greg Haga was pleased with another of his wrestlers who battled back, Adam Lindgren. Lindgren topped Alex Brummer, 6-3, at 145 after falling behind 2-0 in the first round. Lindgren used two takedowns in the third to forge the win.

The match ended the SOC dual season. The teams next prepare for the district tournament Feb. 6-7 in Grants Pass.
