Raider softball team wins two games from Bethany

The 25th-ranked Southern Oregon University softball team capped a nine-game California road trip by twice defeating Bethany College by 7-2 scores Tuesday.

The Raiders improved to 11-4 overall and extended their win streak to five by accumulating 21 hits in the doubleheader.

A day after going 7-for-7 in a twin bill sweep at Patten, junior shortstop Kara Ray of Central Point went 3-for-3 and scored three times in Game 1, and was 2-for-4 in Game 2.

The former Crater High star and Wichita State transfer is batting .692 (18-for-26) spanning the past seven games.

Junior all-star Haley Varley accounted for five hits in the games.

Junior Miranda Gillaspie earned the Game — victory by allowing only one hit in six innings, while sophomore Amanda Cregan went five frames to improve to 5-1 on the season in the second game.

— Southern Oregon begins its Cascade Conference title defense Friday morning in Caldwell, Idaho, at a league tournament.

SOU downs Willamette for seventh straight tennis win

NAMPA, Idaho ' Southern Oregon University won its seventh straight match and eighth against one loss, rallying to defeat Willamette, 6-4, Tuesday.

The Raiders lost four of the first five matches, then reeled of a string of victories.

Annie Chaney and Danielle Farber, No. — and — in singles and doubles partners, accounted for three of the wins and went undefeated here. Erika Moller also won all her matches, playing through a cut finger against Willamette. She injured herself opening a can of balls.

Eugene bowler wins senior event; Korth places fourth

Marlin Alvis of Eugene won the Southern Oregon Seniors bowling tournament Sunday at Liberty Lanes in Cottage Grove.

Central Point's Bob Korth placed fourth, finishing behind runner-up Darrel Mullins of Eugene and James Gorecki of Roseburg. Roseburg's Dan Fairchild was fifth.
