Lockrem's 68 fuels Pels; North second

KLAMATH FALLS ' Klamath Union's Cody Lockrem shot a career-best 4-under-par 68 to win the final all-Southern Oregon Conference counting meet on Monday at Running Y Resort.

Lockrem's blistering round vaulted the Pelicans to the team victory at 289.

Mike Barry shot a 71 to lead North Medford (295) to second place, while Roseburg took third at 307.

Grants Pass' Jay Kirkwood and South Medford's Nick Nieto tied for second individually with a 70.

The district meet is next Monday and Tuesday at Roseburg Country Club.

The Black Tornado, which has not won a district golf title since 1992, leads the conference by four strokes over Roseburg heading into district.

— We're starting to play, starting to click a little bit, said North coach Kevin Klabunde. We've got four seniors and one junior on the team. I think the maturity of having those extra years of experience will help us.

ALL-SOC ' At Roseburg, Ashland's Stephanie Johns and Roseburg's Melissa Carl each shot 4-over-par 76 to share medalist honors at the final SOC counter meet at Roseburg Country Club.

The district tournament will be next Monday and Tuesday at Rogue Valley Country Club. The top two teams after district advance to the state meet.

The Grizzlies, who hold a comfortable lead in the conference standings heading into the district meet, won the team title Monday with a 343.

Grants Pass took second with a 362 and Roseburg was third at 378. North Medford finished fourth with a 383.
