Hamilton's gem helps Illinois Valley ease past Phoenix

TALENT ' Kim Hamilton continued her mastery of Skyline Conference hitters Tuesday afternoon, pitching another gem to lead Illinois Valley over Phoenix, 4-1.

The Cougar senior scattered three hits as Illinois Valley (15-4, 13-2 Skyline) won for the sixth time in as many tries.

Hamilton and her batterymate, catcher Ricci Coultas, scored the game's go-ahead runs.

Coultas led off the Illinois Valley fourth with a single and advanced to third on a passed ball and stolen base. After Hamilton walked, Jessica Ragsdale hit a two-RBI single.

The Cougars put up a run in the game's first inning and added an insurance run in the sixth.

Phoenix (7-12, 7-8 Skyline) got their lone run from catcher Kelly Singleton in the fourth inning.

ROGUE RIVER 9, NORTH VALLEY 0 ' At Rogue River, pitcher Laura Jones tossed her third perfect game of the season as fourth-ranked Rogue River (17-1 overall) remained unbeaten in the Skyline Conference at 15-0.

Jones struck out 16 and improved to 15-1 on the season.

Jessica Lea and Lacey Scroggins each went 3-for-4 to lead the Chieftains' offensive attack, while Cass Giesbrecht and Jones collected two RBIs apiece.

MAZAMA 16, HIDDEN VALLEY — ' At Murphy, Mazama collected 20 hits during a five-inning Skyline Conference win.

Hidden Valley (2-13 conference) had just two hits and committed six errors.

The Vikings improved to 6-9 in the league standings.

At Klamath Falls, Henley knocked 14 hits in the Skyline Conference win over Lakeview.

Kristin Brunelle led the Hornets (11-8, 10-5 Skyline) with a home run and three RBIs, while Kayla Picard contributed four hits.

The Honkers were held scoreless until the fifth inning when an RBI by Jill Gage sparked a three-run effort.

NORTH MEDFORD JV 6, CASCADE CHRISTIAN 2 ' Amy Wall struck out 13 batters and pitched a complete game for the North Medford JV team.

Amanda Volgarino hit a home run for the Black Tornado and Tifanny Schmelzer was 2-for-3.

For visiting Cascade Christian (5-11), Melissa Gmur and Rusti Mosser each had two hits.
