North, Crater split Legion A doubleheader

Darrin Bruhns walked with the bases loaded to force home the winning run for the North Medford Mavericks during a 13-12 victory in Game — of a doubleheader split with Crater on Monday at Miles Field.

The Comets rebounded to take an 8-3 decision in the nightcap and force a split in the American Legion A baseball twin bill.

Tony Salamone had two hits and four runs for North in the opener.

Matt Schmeltzer added a pair of hits to go with two runs and two stolen bases, while Zach James (two hits, two RBIs and two runs), Shea Bedortha (two hits and three runs) and Kyle Lamson (two hits and two runs) also contributed strong games.

Charles Grabowski went 2-for-5 with three RBIs to lead Crater, while Chris Thomas also had two hits.

Pitcher Tony Davidson brought the Comets back in Game 2 with a complete-game victory.

— Shawn Ogle went 2-for-5 with two RBIs to lead the offense, which benefited from eight North Medford walks and hit batsmen.

The Mavericks (3-3) next play Klamath Falls in a — p.m. doubleheader at Miles Field on Thursday.
