No Dusty on MNF

Staff Reports —

Monday night didn't turn out to be Dusty McGrorty's nationally — televised entrance into the world of professional football.

The record-breaking, all-American Raider football alum — has survived weeks of fall training camp with the St. Louis Rams and, — in the team's second preseason tune-up against the Kansas City Chiefs, — had hoped to get his hands on the pigskin to show fans what he could do. —

Instead, the clock expired without McGrorty, who was picked — up by the Rams as a free agent after the 2004 NFL Draft, getting a touch — or St. Louis (0-2) getting a win.

Kansas City took its home field advantage to heart, tallying — three touchdowns and a field goal in the first half while holding St. — Louis scoreless. The Rams never recovered, falling 24-7.

However, local sports fans could appreciate Oregon State's — Steven Jackson scoring the Rams' only points of the evening - a six-yard — scramble with seven and a half minutes remaining in the third quarter. — Marshall Faulk's understudy at running back led St. Louis in rushing with — 14 carries for 53 yards. He also had one nine-yard reception.

Although Jackson and Faulk, with the help of Lamar Gordon, — appear to be handling the ball-carrying duties for now, McGrorty was fifth — on the August 24th team depth chart at running back and has two more preseason — games to prove his value to the 2003 NFC West champions.

The Rams next play Friday versus Washington and close — out the preseason Sept. 2 at Oakland.

McGrorty, who shattered 10 school or Northwest small-college — records and compiled 5,414 rushing yards and 79 touchdowns during his — Raider career, is currently the Rams top reserve at fullback. He played — halfback in college.
