Max Boots, Phoenix High SchoolMax Boots is proving to be the epitome of a go-to guy.
The senior tailback for the Phoenix Pirates is putting up monstrous numbers on a weekly basis. In particular, it was a stellar second-half performance Friday against Rogue River that defined him and his team.
No. 8-ranked Phoenix trailed Skyline Conference foe Rogue River 18-8 at halftime. But with the 6-foot, 195-pounder touching the ball on 23 of 25 plays and rushing for 213 yards in the final two quarters, the Pirates rallied for a 28-21 triumph.
He scored on runs of 36 yards in the third quarter and — yard in the fourth before breaking the Chieftains' backs. His 76-yard scoring jaunt on a toss sweep inside the final four minutes snapped a 21-21 deadlock.
Boots, who finished with 257 rushing yards on 34 carries, also scored Phoenix's first touchdown, hauling in a 14-yard pass from quarterback Matt Hagert. Boots ran for the conversion.
After only three games, Boots has 699 yards rushing, an average of 233 per game, and has scored 10 touchdowns to help the Pirates get off to a 3-0 start.
