Sharp foul shooting lifts Phoenix boys

Skyline Roundup

ROGUE RIVER ' Phoenix overcame some shaky inside defense with deadeye free throw shooting to remain undefeated in Skyline Conference boys basketball.

Justin Krafft and Nathan Bursk combined to make 9 of 9 foul shots in the fourth quarter as the Pirates pulled away from a two-point lead to a 68-60 win.

Phoenix is 9-6, 3-0 in league.

Bursk hit a 3-point basket to give Phoenix a five-point edge in the fourth.

That gave us a little cushion, said Pirates coach Kevin Dixon, then we just took care of the ball fairly well. They had to foul us, and we made our free throws.

Phoenix turned the ball over 19 times and Rogue River parlayed them into 27 points. Twenty of the Chieftains' 26 field goals were layups or from close range.

— We gave up way too many easy buckets, said Dixon.

Krafft had a fine all-around game with 20 points, six rebounds, five steals and four assists. Bursk scored 16 points, with five rebounds and three assists, and Ben Decuir had nine points and 13 rebounds.
