Wohosky, Wilson in semis
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ' Medford Bulldog boxers Troy Wohosky and Mike Wilson moved into the semifinal round of the U.S. Amateur Boxing Championships on Thursday.
Wilson, 21, slipped past Eugene Hill of Dickinson, Texas, in a heavyweight quarterfinal bout, 6-4.
The defending national champion Wilson struggled to record points against Hill's defensive style, and led just 2-1 after the second round. But Wilson managed to hang on and improve his career record to 72-19.
Wohosky, meanwhile, pummeled Jeremy Perez, of Lubbock, Texas, before the referee stopped the fight in the second round with Wohosky holding a 20-plus point lead. The 19-year-old Wohosky improved to 63-17.
Wilson will face Alfred White, of Lake Charles, La., in today's semifinal bout. Wohosky matches up with Gary Russell of Capitol Heights, Md.
The five-day event, which ends Saturday, features 180 of the nation's top boxers.
