Recent North Medford High graduate Mike Barry
finished with a three-day score of 206 for a comfortable win in the Rogue Valley Country Club Championships Friday through Sunday.
was second with a 218, while Doug Olson
took third with a 224 to claim the final trophy.
Barry, who won the Class 4A state high school championship last spring, trailed by three strokes after Friday's opening round but blistered the rest of the field over the final two days.
shot a 217 to win the women's division by nine strokes over Trina Rasmussen, while Dan Dixon
claimed the senior championship with a 214 and Bob Harrell
won the super seniors title with a 217.
Medford's Nate Schnugg
(seeded fifth) defeated top-seeded Steven Forman of Del Mar, Calif., 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 to claim the Boys 16 title at the U.S. Tennis Association championships in Kalamazoo, Mich., held Aug. 5-14.
Schnugg received a gold ball for the USTA title and a wild card entry into the U S Open Junior Championships in September.
Medford's James Gilmore
and Central Point's Aaron Ghiglieri
helped Team Oregon to third place at the Western Zone Championships in Salt Lake City recently.
Gilmore swam on the second-place 400 medley relay team and the fifth-place 200 freestyle and 200 medley relay squads in the 13-14-year-old class.
Ghiglieri, competing in the 11-12-year-old division, was a member of the fourth-place 200 medley relay and sixth-place 400 free relay teams.
Steven Mark Skipper
of Gold Hill and his horse, Irwin's Color Me Cool,
won five categories at the Canadian Nation Pinto Championships in Surrey, British Columbia.
They won in English equitation, trail, hunter under saddle, Western pleasure and Western showmanship. They were third in English showmanship and Western horsemanship and took the high-point title in the novice-amateur class.
