Medford prep football season tickets on sale

Season tickets for North and South Medford's high school varsity football games are on sale at the school activities offices from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The first home game is Sept. 2 at Spiegelberg Stadium, with South Medford hosting Tigard at 7 p.m.

Season-ticket prices are &

36;41 for South (five games) and &

36;32 for North (four games). Per-game tickets are &

36;8 for reserved seats and &

36;6 for general admission.

Ultimate Cage Fighting event set Saturday at Expo

Ultimate Cage Fighting's Night of Champions will be Saturday at the Jackson County Expo in the Compton Arena.

Doors open at 7 p.m., with fights beginning at 8.

— Twelve amateur and two professional fights in the steel cage are planned. Former SOU wrestling standout Devin Cole and John Gunderson are professional fighters slated to compete, plus other fighters from Oregon, California, Washington, Nevada and Arizona. Two title belts will also be up for grabs.

Tickets are available at Tickets West Safeway locations, Big Boys Toys, Fat Cats Tattoo and Wicked Willies.

Distance runners slate training run at Bear Creek

Southern Oregon runners training for the Oct. 9 Portland Marathon will meet for a long training run on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5.

The group will begin exactly at 7 a.m. on the Bear Creek Greenway at Bear Creek Park in Medford next to the dog park. Anyone training to walk or run the Portland Marathon is welcome to join; however this is not a formally organized or sponsored event.

The bike path is marked in one-tenth mile increments for 5.5 miles to Central Point. Most of the athletes will go out and back twice for a total of 22 miles. There are no sign-ups or entry fees.

Linebackers to kick off season with meeting Friday

The first meeting of the Medford Linebackers Club will be at noon Friday at J.J. North's Grand Buffet, 1016 N. Riverside.

Featured speakers will be football coaches Bill Singler of South Medford, Rod Rumrey of North Medford and Robert Metcalf of St. Mary's. Southern Oregon University Athletic Director Dennis Francois is tentatively scheduled to appear.

The club supports Medford school athletics and is open to all.
