Roseburg, Ashland claim cross country wins

Prep Roundup

CENTRAL POINT ' A four-team Southern Oregon Conference cross country meet was held Thursday at the Jackson County Expo, but some the best runners failed to show up.

Thus Ashland senior John Harris won boys 5K run with a time of 17 minutes, 14.55 seconds and the Roseburg boys triumphed with a team total of 37 points.

The girls side ran truer to form with district-favorite Ashland placing five girls in the top nine to win the team honors.

Roseburg's Katie Wilton was the top individual girl with a time of 20:34.

Teams were trying to save runners for the conference meet, so a lot of teams held runners out, Crater coach Justin Loftus said. So it wasn't a big story breaker.

Crater's Isaac Stoutenburgh, the SOC's top runner, sat out the meet in preparation for Saturday's prestigious Mount Sac Invitational in Southern California.

— And the Comets No. 2 runner, Jake Keyser, ran back in the pack with teammates and finished an uncharacteristic 13th with a time of 17:52.

The SOC district meet takes place Oct. 29 at River Forks Park in Roseburg.
