SOU women breeze by Savannah College of Art & Design

ARCATA, Calif. ' Southern Oregon scored the first seven points and never trailed in a triumph over Savannah College of Art & Design.

Junior post Kelsey Richards had her best game as a Raider with game highs of 19 points and seven rebounds to lead SOU to the North Coast Inn Classic win over the NAIA Div. II Bees (2-6).

Junior forward Andi Peterson scored 17, and junior guard Jenna Ayers had 10 points and five assists for the Raiders, who shot 50 percent from the floor (31 of 62) and out-rebounded SCAD 49-26.

SOU led 39-23 at halftime and limited the Georgia school to a 32 percent clip (17 of 54).

SOUTHERN OREGON 29, PORTLAND STATE 10 ' At North Bend, seventh-ranked Southern Oregon (2-1) won seven of 10 bouts to top Portland State for the second time this season.

Freshman Trevor Lofstedt avenged last month's 5-4 loss with a 9-3 decision over freshman Bricen Yakabe, and SOU shot to a 15-0 lead with forfeit wins at 133 and 141.

Top-ranked senior Jimmy Grochowsky improved to 9-1 with a decision over Chris Feist at 165, and two-time All-American David O'Brien and senior Rick Story each improved to 10-1 with wins at 174 and 184, respectively.

The Raiders return to action next weekend with duals against ninth-ranked Menlo College, sixth-ranked Embry-Riddle and the annual Reno Tournament of Champions.
