Farley's big game lifts SOU men

Raider RoundupASHLAND ' Senior point guard Steve Farley's career night helped the top-ranked Southern Oregon University men's basketball team outlast Northwest University, 78-68, in a Cascade Conference clash at McNeal Pavilion Wednesday night.

Farley canned seven of 11 shots, including five 3-pointers, en route to a 24-point, seven-assist, four-steal stat line that helped the Raiders (15-1, 4-0 CC) win their 14th straight game and 12th consecutive at home.

Senior All-American forward Shea Washington scored 16 and grabbed nine rebounds, and wings RaShawn McAllister and Matt Espinoza each tallied 14 points to help SOU compensate for the absence of all-star post Jeff Williams, who left the contest in the opening minutes due to injury.

Northwest (9-5, 1-3) trailed 70-49 with 3:50 remaining but pulled within eight with a 15-2 run that fizzled only when SOU converted its final six free throw attempts in the closing 45 seconds.

We were fairly efficient offensively for most of the game, and we got into a nice flow for the first time in quite a while midway through the second half, Raider coach Brian McDermott said. Steve (Farley) made a lot of big shots tonight, and he's not afraid to take them. He helped us loosen the 2-3 zone that we've seen so much of lately.
