Raider wrestlers go 3-1 at big tourney

Cedar Falls, Iowa ' The Southern Oregon University wrestling team remains in the consolation hunt for a fifth-place finish after winning three of four matches on Day — of the Cliff Keen NAIA National Duals.

The seventh-ranked Raiders opened the 16-team event with a 51-3 romp over NAIA neophyte King (Tenn.) College ' the school's most lopsided victory since a 56-0 romp over Oregon Tech in 1988-89.

Two hours later, the Raiders lost their first nine matches against third-ranked Dana, Neb. and needed a third-period pin by sophomore heavyweight Taylor Wilkerson to avert suffering its first shutout loss since 1972 in a 29-6 quarterfinal setback.

SOU bounced back with a 30-15 win against McKendree and a 24-12 victory over Dickinson State.

Wilkerson, a former Crater High all-stater, went 4-0 on the day.

— Second-ranked senior All-American David O'Brien had his three-year, 28-bout dual-meet win streak snapped in a 15-10 loss to Dana's unranked Marshall Arquardt.
