Southern Oregon grapplers take fifth

The Southern Oregon University wrestling team capped an overachieving trip to Iowa Sunday by capturing the consolation championship at the 16-team Cliff Keen NAIA National Duals competition in Cedar Falls.
The NAIA seventh-ranked Raiders finished the two-day affair with a 4-1 mark and claimed the fifth-place dual by demolishing defending West Region champion and fifth-ranked Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) by a 29-6 count.
SOU won eight of the 10 bouts, including sophomore Taylor &
s 3-2 upset of fourth-ranked heavyweight Robert Charlton that capped the Ashland school&
s second head-to-head win of the season against the Eagles.
Senior James Mannenbach, an Eagle Point product, registered a pin in the 165-pound clash.
The Raiders also defeated the Prescott, Ariz. outfit 22-14 on Dec. 17.
, second-ranked Jimmy Grochowsky (165/174) and sixth-ranked Rick Story (184) led Southern with 4-1 individual records at the event.

Now 9-3 overall, Southern Oregon can run its national-record consecutive winning season streak to 36 on Thursday at McNeal Pavilion against eighth-ranked Menlo College. The dual begins at 7 p.m.
Sixth-ranked Cumberlands, Ky. defeated No. 4 Dana, Neb. for the National Duals championship.
