North Medford boys tennis opens conference with win

Local Roundup

The North Medford boys tennis team opened its Southern Oregon Conference schedule with an impressive performance Tuesday.

The Black Tornado swept all four doubles matches en route to a 6-2 victory over Roseburg at District Courts.

The North doubles teams only lost one game in three matches. The Black Tornado was awarded a default victory in No. 4 doubles.

We have a little bit of work to do in singles, North Medford coach Larry Fields said, but the doubles teams looked really good. The doubles teams weren't really challenged.

In singles, North Medford sophomore Michael Tribble played effectively against Roseburg's unorthodox Andrew Besson. Tribble won the No. — singles match, 6-3, 6-2.

It took (Tribble) a while to adjust to Besson's under spin and kick serve, said Fields. (Tribble) served well, which he usually does. He hung in and got the opportunities.

— North's top two doubles teams consist of sophomore David Longmire and freshman Colt Hoeptner and two more freshmen ' Tanner Borg and Austin Schoenlein.

We have a really young team, said Fields. All of them are tournament players.
