Phoenix boys stumble to Skyline winEAGLE POINT ' The Phoenix High boys golf team battled through an off day to edge out Henley Thursday in the Skyline Conference opener at Eagle Point Golf Course.

Behind a team-best 9-over-par 81 from JT Compher, Phoenix notched a 331 to slip past the Hornets by seven strokes.

Henley's Blaine Corkill earned medalist honors with a 6-over 78.

I don't know that anybody out there played their best golf, said Pirates coach Kyle Walker. I know that our scores were a little bit higher than our capabilities.

Phoenix's Daniel Engle and Michael Stanfield tied for third overall at 82, while Sam Howell and Luke Nickodemus ' the team's only senior ' both scored an 86 for the Pirates.

North Medford's top pairing of David Longmire and Colt Hoeptner led the Black Tornado's charge in doubles.

NORTH MEDFORD 4, ASHLAND 4 ' At Ashland, North Medford's Allyson Marrs pulled out a three-set victory at No. 4 singles in the final match of the day to allow the Black Tornado to tie host Ashland in a Southern Oregon Conference affair.

The tandem of Erica Schultz and Sarah Louie also paced North Medford (0-1-1 SOC) as one of its three doubles teams to post victories.

Singles players Kayla Moyse, Maddy Stokes and Lila Schreiber led the Grizzlies.
