Tornado sweeps doubles to dust Panthers

North Medford used a 6-2 triumph Thursday at Varsity Courts to defeat rival South Medford for the second time this season in boys tennis.

The Black Tornado rode the strong singles play of sophomore Michael Tribble and freshman Colt Hoeptner, and swept all four doubles matches to secure the win.

Tribble improved to 6-1 with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Brett Swanson in the No. — singles match, while Hoeptner (4-0) coasted to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Alex Pfenning in No. 2 singles.

North's No. — doubles tandem of Austin Schoenlein and Steve Folsom also remain undefeated at 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Jeff Newman and Antoine Guy.

David Longmire and Tanner Borg, North's No. 2 doubles squad, moved to 4-0 with a win, while Brandon Como and Arthur Huynh upped their mark to 7-0 with a victory at No. — doubles.

Andy Atkinson and Xavier Brasseur recorded South Medford's lone singles victories.

SOUTH MEDFORD 8, ROSEBURG 0 ' South Medford's top singles player Emily Works led the way to a victory over Roseburg in SOC play at Fichtner-Mainwaring Park.

Works edged Corine Borreli 7-5 in the first set, but finished strong with a 6-1 triumph in the second set.

In doubles, sisters Sam and Natalie Ruffe of South Medford (8-0) went the distance against Roseburg's Sarah Gawne and Lindsey Behrens, 6-3, 0-6, 6-2 in the No. — matchup.

ETNA JV 6-14, ST. MARY'S 0-3 ' At Etna, Calif., pitcher Austin Schrader didn't allow a run, but six St. Mary's errors resulted in six Etna runs in Game — as the Crusaders were swept in nonconference action.

St. Mary's (1-12, 1-6 SCL) committed 12 errors on the afternoon, including four mistakes in Etna's 10-run fifth inning in the second contest that ended by virtue of the 10-run mercy rule.
