Raider wrestlers score high when it comes to academics
ASHLAND ' Southern Oregon University's wrestling team had the NAIA's third highest cumulative grade-point average (3.165), and five grapplers received All-Academic honors from the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
Southern Oregon, which placed sixth at the NAIA meet last March, trailed Jamestown College (3.199) and Dana, Neb. (3.175).
Seniors James Mannenbach (a pre-physical therapy major with a 3.82 GPA), Josh Fitzgerald (3.78, pre-med), David O'Brien (3.03, business) and Matt Holt (3.03, health and physical education) were among 41 NAIA individual honorees, as was freshman Trevor Lofstedt (3.72, English).
Mannenbach is an SOU Presidential Scholar from Eagle Point who had the third highest GPA on the NWCA list. On the mat, he was an All-American, placing fifth at nationals at 165 pounds.
Ultimate Frisbee tourneyto be held in Ashland
The Cramp Up ultimate Frisbee tournament will be held in Ashland today and Sunday, starting at 9:30 a.m.
The Ashland High football field will be the main venue for 16 teams competing in the regional event.
