SOU defeats OIT

Southern Oregon University's volleyball team (14-5) came out with intensity in their 3-1 win over Oregon Tech (16-7) Friday night at McNeal Pavilion. The Raiders were led by sophomore middle-blocker, Mia Wortel, who tallied 17 kills and six blocks on the night.

The Raiders, ranked No. 2 in the Cascade Conference came out in game one with a 30-17 win, giving the Owls no chance to catch up. In game two, the Owls increased their attacking earning 17 kills over SOU's 14 to bring the game to a close 30-27 Raider win. Game three looked a little sluggish for the Raiders, hitting only .109 while the Owls hit .211 sending them to a 30-27 win. In game four, the Raiders went to their game one intensity of play and won 30-20 to win 3-1 over Cascade Conference No. — team, Oregon Tech.

Including Wortel's 17 kills, the Raiders had four players recording double digits in kills. Jaclyn Hamilton-Smith racked up 14 kills, and Richelle Millsap and Shanna Claflin each had 11 kills. Molly Grossmann tallied 31 set assists, while Isabel Yasana had 19 in the four games. Katie Pluchos stood out for the Raiders defensively, putting up 22 digs. Emily Stone and Whitney Riehl each recorded 13 digs.

For the Owls, Krista Wooley led the team with 18 kills, while Katie Fuller was just behind with 17 kills. Wooley also led the team in digs with 21 and blocks with 4. Megan Albertson tallied 43 set assists and 13 digs on the night.

The Raiders continue action on the road Friday and Saturday, October 27 and 28 against Corban College and Concordia University, respectively.
