Former Cascade Christian volleyball star Melissa Gmur is having a banner freshman season for Hutchinson Community College, Kan.

Gmur, the player of the year in the Southern Cascade League in 2006, is nine assists short of becoming the sixth Lady Dragon in program history with 1,000 assists in a season. Gmur has also posted 12 double-doubles this year.

Gmur was a second-team All-Jayhawk Conference selection for 13th-ranked Hutchinson.

Seven swimmers from the newly formed Triton Swim Team excelled in a meet in Redding, Calif. Nov. 3-4.

Jeremy Selland earned six personal records in the 100 free (55.53), 200 free (1:59.51), 1,000 free (11:11.29), 500 free (5:20.78), 50 free (25.65) and shaved a minute of his time in the 1,650 free with a time of 18:58.69.

Dash King and Aaron Ghiglieri each added a pair of personal bests to their resumes.

King clocked 50.05 in the 100 free, 58.01 in the 100 fly, 22.54 in the 50 free and 2:10.74 in the 200 IM.

Central Point's Ghiglieri two personal marks came in the 100 free (50.44) and 100 back (56.55). He also swam in the 100 fly (57.60), 100 breast (1:07.63), 50 free (23.08) and 200 IM (2:07.81).

On the girl's side, Breanna Sapienza had personal bests in the 100 fly (1:03.91), 100 free (58.08) while cutting nine seconds off her 200 IM, clocking 2:23.29). She added times of 1:10.59 in the 100 back, 1:17.75 in the 100 breast and 27.01 in the 50 free.

Samantha Case dropped times in five of her six events. She swam the 100 free (58.79), 200 breast (2:48.13), 100 breast (1:17.20), 50 free (27.54) and 200 IM (2:32.80).

Melissa Ghiglieri achieved personal best times in the 100 freee (56.76), 200 breast (2:38.02), 100 fly (1:05.53), 100 breast (1:10.79), 50 free (26.49) and the 200 IM (2:22.60).

Another 16-year-old, Kelsey Hoeper, recorded a time of 25.95 in the 50 free and also raced in the 100 fly, 100 back, 100 breast, 100 free and 200 IM.

The second annual Turkey Trot Run, put on by the Southern Oregon Sizzlers Club, will take place Nov. 22 at the Rogue Rock Gym.

The eight-mile and two-mile runs will begin at 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., respectively.

Pre-register by Nov. 10. Cost is $7 for SOS members and $10 for nonmembers. Added fee of $3 for those who resister day of race at 7 a.m.

Ribbons will be awarded for the top three finishers in each age group. Prizes drawing after race is completed.

Auditions for an all-star cheerleading competition will be held Nov. 12, 14, 19 and 21, 6:30-8 p.m. at America's Best Kids located behind Lava Lanes.

The event is for ages 5-18. No experience is neccessary to try out and high school cheerleaders are welcome.
