Man held on charge he drugged, raped 16-year-old

A Medford man faces rape, assault and drug charges for allegedly forcing methamphetamine on a 16-year-old girl, then raping her.

Medford police arrested Travis Dale Penninger, 24, of the 2300 block of Table Rock Road, Tuesday and he remains in jail now on two counts each of first-degree rape and contributing to the sexual deliquency of a minor and single counts of first- and second-degree sexual abuse, delivering methamphetamine to a minor and fourth-degree assault. Bail is set at $1 million.

A 16-year-old girl reported to police at 6 p.m. Sunday that she had been sexually assaulted by someone she knew. She told police that she had met Penninger twice and, each time, he had forced her to use meth, then raped her while she was under the drug's influence, a news release from Medford police said.

A detective and a nurse trained in examining victims of sexual assault were called to investigate. The investigation led to Penninger's arrest.
