Upton Road reopens
CENTRAL POINT — After seven months of being closed to traffic, Upton Road in Central Point is opening this morning.
In October, Shasta Constructors closed Upton Road to replace the old overpass bridge. The new bridge features sidewalks and bike lanes and compliments recent work completed by Central Point at the intersection of Upton Road and Scenic Avenue, said Gary Leaming, project information coordinator for the Oregon Department of Transportation.
Work will continue through the summer on the Upton Road Bridge over Bear Creek, but that road has been open to traffic. The new bridge also will have a left-turn lane for westbound Upton Road traffic onto Penninger Road.
The $12.4 million bridge replacement and repair contract will be completed in November. It is funded by the Oregon Transportation Investment Act. The project also includes replacement of the I-5 bridge that spans Foley Lane north of Blackwell Hill and repair of the I-5 bridge that spans Foothills Boulevard and the Central Oregon & Pacific Railroad tracks.
