Stop uncovers 13 pounds of marijuana

Oregon State Police stopped a 2009 Dodge Charger for speeding and found 13 pounds of marijuana valued at about $35,000.

A trooper spotted the muscle car speeding near Ashland at about noon on Friday and stopped it near milepost 11 on Interstate 5, OSP reported. As the investigation continued, he called a Shady Cove police officer with a narcotics detection dog to assist and about 13 pounds of marijuana was found hidden inside the car.

Troopers arrested the driver, Raymond Edward Chance, 27, of Longview, Wash., and passenger Kevin Dean Christensen, also known as Christopherson, 29, of Rainier. Both were lodged at the Jackson County Jail for unlawful distribution, manufacture, and possession of marijuana.

Christensen's bail was set at $75,000 and he bailed out over the weekend, jail records show. Chance remained in jail this morning on $125,000 bail.
