Police suspect White City drive-by shooting was gang related
Jackson County Sheriff's Department is investigating a drive-by shooting in White City that is suspected of being gang related.
A string of 9-1-1 calls at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday reported that shots were fired from a small dark-colored car with tinted windows toward a house in the 3800 block of Avenue H. No one was injured, and investigators believe all the rounds hit a driveway, said sheriff's department Sgt. Rick Kennedy.
The vehicle drove by the house and fired multiple rounds. Investigators haven't determined what kind of gun it was, Kennedy said.
Witnesses described the car, possibly a hatchback, as older, but estimates on its age varied, he said.
The Avenue H neighborhood was the scene of suspected gang violence July 12 when a group of teens threatened to beat two boys with a baseball bat. The group dispersed after the boys' father fired a shot into the air, officials said at that time.
Investigators said they have several leads in Wednesday's shooting and continue to seek details.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the sheriff's department at 774-6800.
