Oregon Arts Commission announces $106,000 in local grants

Seven Rogue Valley arts organizations received grants totaling $106,000 in the latest round of funding announced by the Oregon Arts Commission.

The grants were included in $1,087,000 distributed through the commission's Operating Support, Arts Services and Arts Learning programs.

Ashland Chamber Music Concerts received $5,000 to support its 2009 season, including 12 concerts and master classes, convocations, and school programs.

Oregon Shakespeare Festival received $12,000 to support its school visit partnership program and $60,000 to support the 2009-10 season.

Rogue Valley Symphony Association received $4,000 to support its 41st concert season in Ashland, Grants Pass and Medford.

The Southern Oregon Film Society received $5,000 to support the 2010 festival and educational and cultural film screenings.

Peter Britt Gardens Music & Arts Festival Association received $8,000 for operating support for its 47th season, which includes more than 40 performances, and summer talent development camps.

The Rogue Valley Art Association received $6,000 to support visual arts and education programming, including its Third Friday art walk, Medford's Art in Bloom festival, and its rental sales gallery, exhibit space and retail shop.

Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon received $6,000 in operating support for the 2009-10 season to provide young musicians from Jackson, Josephine and Klamath counties with training and performance opportunities.
