County officials' salaries headed up again
All elected county officials will get a salary hike that will bump the county commissioners to just shy of $100,000, a county committee recommended today.
Sticking to a plan devised three years ago, the three-member Elected Officials Salary Review Committee justified the annual step raises as appropriate given the responsibilities of the sheriff, the assessor, the clerk, the Justice of the Peace and commissioners.
The commissioners’ salaries would increase from $94,661 to $99,403 under the recommendation.
Dick Rudisile, a member of the committee, said the county has squeezed out $65 million in savings over the past few years and has cut a third of its employees. He said this is due to the leadership of the commissioners and the coordination with other elected officials.
“You ought to be paying them a bonus,” he said.
