Driver charged in crash that killed two

The woman who was driving an SUV that careened off Upper Applegate Road July 17 in a crash that killed her son and his girlfriend and injured six other young people has been charged with manslaughter, assault and reckless driving.

Lynne Michel Tibbetts, 47, was arrested late Wednesday on two counts of manslaughter, three counts each of third- and fourth-degree assault and reckless driving. She remains lodged in the Jackson County Jail this morning on $500,000 bail.

Tibbetts was driving the SUV that veered off the pavement in the 600 block of Upper Applegate Road, tumbled across a ditch and hit a tree while on the way to Applegate Lake. One man was thrown from the vehicle, two people were partially ejected, two got out on their own and four were trapped inside, emergency responders reported at the time of the accident.

Douglas Auberry, 20, and Faith Vock,18, both of Medford, died. Auberry was Tibbetts' son and Vock was his girlfriend. Their other friends in the vehicle included Heather Jones, 18; Donald Nelson, 19; Isis Leiby, 18; Steve Crozier, 20; Abram Arnold, 20; and a 17-year-old girl whose name wasn't released for her own protection.
