Mayors take part in 'Help Feed Our Community' campaign

Mayors of several Jackson County cities are participating in the second annual "Helping Feed Our Community" campaign starting Thursday, Sept. 23.

The campaign, spearheaded by Mayors United, aims to raise money for ACCESS Inc.'s network of food pantries. Last year's event raised enough money to provide 100,000 meals for local residents.

Mayors will take proclamations to their city council meetings from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1 in preparation for the campaign, which runs through Oct. 16.

The campaign culminates in a communitywide party from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, in the Sherm and Wanda Olsrud Pavilion at the Jackson County Fairgrounds and Exposition Park.

Tickets to the party cost $25, which includes live music from Rogue Suspects, dancing, catered food, wine, beer and other refreshments and a silent auction. Auction items include a three-night stay in a downtown Portland Pearl District loft with two Trail Blazers basketball tickets.

Tickets can be purchased by calling 541-774-4312 or by making an online donation at www.access-inc.org and following the "Mayors United" link.

Tickets are available also at ACCESS Inc., Sherm's Thunderbird and Sherm's Food 4 Less.
