61-year-old woman dies on I-5, ten miles south of Ashland
The name of a 61-year-old woman found deceased in an Interstate 5 crash on Saturday was released Sunday.
Bernice Kay Gracey, 61 of Lake Stevens, Wash., was the only occupant in her 2005 Dodge pickup found Saturday, Aug. 20. at 10:46 p.m. upside down on an embankment off I-5. According to a press release from Oregon State Police, Gracey was traveling southbound on I-5 about ten miles south of Ashland when the pickup pulling a trailer with a 32-foot aluminum boat, went off the road on a straight downgrade section near milepost 4. Gracey was found with safety restraints but, pronounced deceased at the scene.
OSP troopers from the Central Point area command office are continuing the investigation to determine the cause of the fatal crash.
OSP troopers were assisted at the scene by ODOT, Ashland Fire Department, and Jackson County Fire District 5.
The southbound lanes of travel were restricted to one lane at the scene for approximately five hours while the investigation was taking place.
