Pre-wrapped gift boxes needed for ACCESS gift delivery program
Through Dec. 2, the ACCESS Senior Shoebox program is looking for donations of pre-wrapped shoeboxes filled with small, inexpensive gifts for later delivery to homebound seniors.
ACCESS officials said they could also use help delivering the boxes the week of Dec. 10.
"Seniors and shut-ins absolutely love this program. It's one of the easiest and most effective ways to make a direct impact on someone's life during the holidays. It's amazing how big of an effect a small box of simple gifts being hand delivered can have on someone's life," said Barbara Bieg, ACCESS Senior/Disabled Outreach Lead.
Last year's ACCESS Senior Shoebox program delivered gifts to 445 clients. This year, the program has a goal of reaching 650 local individuals throughout Jackson County, depending on how many gift boxes are donated.
Here's how you can help:
Fill a pre-wrapped box (both box and lid wrapped separately) with simple household items (e.g.: pocket calendar, address book, post-it notes, flashlights, sewing kit, neck pillow, jar grippers, alarm clock), fun items (small stuffed animal, card games, crossword puzzle, etc.), toiletries (toothbrush and toothpaste, dental floss, bath sponge, combs and brushes, nail clippers), or other inexpensive gifts. Drop off shoeboxes at ACCESS, 3630 Aviation Way, Medford, by Dec. 2.
