Local Veterans Day activities

Parades and speeches will highlight the annual Veterans Day activities in Jackson County on Friday.

President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Nov. 11 as "Armistice Day" in 1919. In 1954, it was changed to Veterans Day to honor all veterans.

Ashland will get a jump on honoring veterans by holding a reception for veterans from noon to 2 p.m. today in the Rogue River Room at Southern Oregon University.
