Police to step up DUII patrols
Officers from the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, Medford police and Oregon State Police will step up drunk driving patrols today through Jan. 2, a news release said.
The extra patrols will be all over Jackson County.
Sheriff's deputies saw a spike in total DUIIs for the sheriff's office in 2008, with 332 arrests.
The number dropped to 261 in 2009 and down to 256 in 2010.
So far, the sheriff's office is on track to see another drop for 2011 with 222 arrests.
"The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is reminding everybody to be responsible this holiday season, by either having a designated driver or by taking a cab if they plan on drinking alcohol," a statement in the news release said.
