Horace and Dorothea Wolfard of Central Point celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary Sept. 18, 2011, with a champagne brunch at Seven Feathers Casino & Resort in Canyonville. They also were honored by 49 family members at a family reunion and camping trip in August at Bastendorff Beach County Park in Charleston, Ore.
The couple have six childre, Dale Wolfard (spouse Linda) of Medford, Jeff Wolfard of White City, Vila Morrell (spouse Dennis) of Creswell, Reba Pickens (spouse Steve) of Medford, Janice McGee (spouse Steve) of Central Point and Peggy Liles (spouse Stub) of Cottage Grove; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Horace Wolfard married Dorothea Faye Wright Sept. 17, 1941, at the bride's family home in Walker, Ore.
Both were born and raised in adjoining communities near Walker, a few miles north of Cottage Grove. Their parents also were native Oregonians.
Horace graduated from Walker Union High School and worked as a timber faller before and after World War II. He served in the 80th Tank Battalion, 8th Armored Division, in Europe.
Dorothea graduated from South Lane high School in Cottage Grove and later attended a Eugene business college.
In 1956, the couple started their business, Wolfard Equipment Company in Cottage Grove. After selling the business in 1967, they relocated to the Rogue Valley and opened Wolfard Equipment Inc. in Medford until they retired in June 2009.
In retirement, the Wolfards enjoy playing cards and spending time with their family.
