Horizon Air reports year-end results
Alaska Air Group unit Horizon Air reported a 17.5 percent decline in December passenger traffic and a 17.6 percent decline in capacity compared to December 2010.
Nonetheless, the Seattle-based airline, which is now Medford's top commercial carrier, used a record 78.7 percent of its passenger-carrying capacity in December. For the full year, it filled 78.2 percent of its passenger-carrying capacity, also a record.
Horizon reported a record 90.2 percent of its flights arrived on time in December, compared to the 67.6 percent reported in December 2010.
The airline said the significant decline in capacity and traffic was primarily due to its transition from CRJ-700 regional jets and a corresponding reduction in the size of Horizon's operating fleet from 54 aircraft at the end of 2010 to 48 aircraft last week.
