Ashland softball shut down by NM ace Becker

MEDFORD — North Medford junior pitcher Maryssa Becker allowed a lead-off bunt single to Piper Cantrell, then was perfect the rest of the way in the 10-0 mercy-rule shortened five-inning prep softball win over Ashland at the Black Tornado Field.

Becker struck out the next 10 Ashland batters after Cantrell's hit. Becker (16-0) finished with 11 strikeouts and no walks.

Keisha Williams paced North (19-1) with two hits and three RBIs. The sophomore third baseman belted a two-run homer in the second inning.

Also collecting two hits for North Medford were Joci Ellis, Becker, Kelsie Bartley and Marissa Gann.

Ashland breezed to the 8-0 nonconference win over Grants Pass, getting a 6-0, 6-0 victory from the No. 1 doubles team of Hanna Greenberg and Vika O'Brien and a 6-3, 6-3 triumph at No. 1 singles from River Davis.
