Brain Bowl winners announced
The Southern Oregon Brain Bowl competition winners have been announced.
In the competition Sunday, April 29, at the Southern Oregon Public Television studios, the Scenic Spartans defeated the Saint Mary's Crusaders in an exciting face-off of knowledge to win the 35th annual Middle School Brain Bowl Championship. The final score was Spartans 53, Crusaders 39.
The South Medford Panthers remained undefeated,
scoring 47 points, as they beat the Ashland Grizzlies, who earned 36 points, to win the 2012 Varsity Brain Bowl Championship.
The Spartans and Panthers will represent Southern Oregon in this summer's National Brain Bowl competitions. The competition is similar to the popular television series "Jeopardy."
More than 450 students participate each year and the competition is open to students attending all public and private schools in the region.
Teachers serve as the team coaches and dedicate hours working with the students to practice and work on their team strategies.
