Schmidt Family Vineyards from the Applegate Valley became the first winery to win multiple Best of Show at the 10th annual Southern Oregon World of Wine Festival.

There were nine double-gold medal, or unanimous, winners in at the 2012 festival, featuring 182 wines from 47 wineries. All told, organizers distributed 19 gold medals and 82 silver medals

Best of Show honors for white wine went to Schmidt Family Vineyards for its 2011 AlbariÃ3/8o. Schmidt Family Vineyards also won Best of Show honors for red wine for its 2009 Tempranillo. It was the second year in a row that a Tempranillo has been awarded Best of Show. Quady North won Best of Show in the other wine category for its 2012 Rosé.

In all, Schmidt Family Vineyards captured eight medals and Troon Vineyard six, while, Brandborg Winery, Slagle Creek Vineyard and Quady North produced five medal winners each.

The double gold medal winning wines will be featured at the GoldRush Dinner, prepared by Jacksonville Inn, on Friday, Aug. 24. Ticket information is available at www.worldofwinefestival.com.
