Government candidates forum next week
Candidates for Jackson County commissioner and the Oregon House of Representatives will appear at a forum from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, in an event sponsored by Project Rogue Valley.
County commissioner candidates Doug Breidenthal, Troy Hackett and Jeff Scroggin, as well as House District 5 candidates Sandra Abercrombie and Peter Buckley have been invited.
The purpose of the forum is to determine candidates' views about issues relating to the Rogue Valley's food supply and corresponding efforts to enhance the viability of family-scale agriculture in the valley.
Topics to be discussed will include land use, transportation and water policies affecting agriculture, the entry of genetically modified crops into the valley, and prospects for improving the economic opportunities for existing or aspiring farmers.
The forum will be moderated by Project Rogue Valley Steering Committee member Jeff Golden.
The forum will be held in the Medford library large meeting room, 205 S. Central Ave.
There is no admission charge, and those attending can ask the candidates questions.
For information, call Jeff Golden at 541-821-8401 or Lynn Blanche at 541-621-7474.
