Ashland mayor to give State of the City address Tuesday

Mayor John Stromberg will offer his views on Ashland affairs during his annual State of the City address on Tuesday evening.

The address will come during an Ashland City Council meeting that begins at 7 p.m. in the Ashland Civic Center Council Chambers, 1175 E. Main St.

Following the speech, the council will declare Saturday, Jan. 11, as Christmas tree recycling day in Ashland.

On Friday, Jan. 10, residents are encouraged to set their Christmas trees out on the curb for pick-up and recycling the following day by Boy Scouts Troop 112, the Ashland Lions Club and the Ashland Parks and Recreation Department.

Trees will be chipped and used on park trails and as mulch for plants.

Residents can make donations to Boy Scouts Troop 112.

Also Tuesday night, councilors will consider sending a letter to Jackson County commissioners asking them to refer to voters a county charter amendment that would make commissioner positions nonpartisan.

Currently, candidates for Jackson County commissioner appear on the ballot as Republican, Democrat, a different political party or nonaffiliated.
